About Antelope Island

Antelope Island floats in the middle of the Great Salt Lake, connected to the mainland by a causeway, and its open, treeless terrain gives a 360-degree horizon rare so close to a major metro area. It was Utah's first Bronze-tier International Dark Sky Park, just a short drive from Salt Lake City.

What you can see in the sky

Milky Way over the Great Salt Lake and, unusually for a spot this close to a metro area, occasional views of aurora on active geomagnetic nights.

Best time of year

Year-round; the park runs scheduled dark-sky and astronomy events — check the Utah State Parks dark sky events calendar.
