About Gros Morne

Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Newfoundland's west coast, has some of the darkest measured skies in Atlantic Canada thanks to its remoteness — the park has been working toward a formal RASC Dark-Sky Preserve designation, but even without the paperwork the fjords and tablelands here go properly black at night.

What you can see in the sky

Deep Milky Way over the fjords, and aurora on active nights.

Best time of year

September, when summer fog clears and clear, cool nights become common before winter storms move in.
