Abisko is one of the most reliable aurora observing sites on Earth. The Sky Station on Mt Nuolja sits inside a rain-shadow that keeps skies clear when the rest of Lapland is clouded in.

Drive from Toronto: ≈ 1.5 h from Kiruna airport up the E10 to Abisko; the Sky Station is reached by summer chairlift or winter snowcat.

Best time of year: September through late March for aurora; the mid-summer sun never sets from late May to mid-July.
