Everglades National Park runs a month-long Dark Sky Celebration each year, and its remote Flamingo area offers genuinely dark views once you get away from the Miami light dome to the east. It's a different kind of dark-sky experience — flat, wet, and full of wildlife sound after dark.

Drive from Toronto: The main park road runs from the Ernest Coe entrance near Homestead, FL, down to Flamingo at the park's southern tip.

Best time of year: The park's Dark Sky Celebration typically runs in February; dry season (November–April) generally has clearer skies and fewer bugs.
