Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Newfoundland's west coast, has some of the darkest measured skies in Atlantic Canada thanks to its remoteness — the park has been working toward a formal RASC Dark-Sky Preserve designation, but even without the paperwork the fjords and tablelands here go properly black at night.

Drive from Toronto: Fly into Deer Lake, then drive about 30–45 minutes to the park.

Best time of year: September, when summer fog clears and clear, cool nights become common before winter storms move in.
