Site

Isle Royale is an island wilderness in Lake Superior reachable only by ferry, seaplane, or private boat — no cars, no roads, and almost no artificial light. That isolation gives it Bortle Class 2 skies over open water horizons.

Drive from Toronto: Reached by ferry from Houghton or Copper Harbor, MI, or Grand Portage, MN — there is no road access.

Best time of year: The park is open roughly mid-April through October; late-season visits (September) combine dark nights with aurora chances.
