Kluane National Park and Reserve, in the Yukon's southwest corner, hosts an annual Dark Sky Festival each September and sits under some of the most active aurora skies in Canada thanks to its high latitude. Canada's tallest peaks form a jagged southern skyline while the northern sky routinely lights up green.

Drive from Toronto: Fly into Whitehorse, then drive about 1.5–2 hours west on the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction.

Best time of year: Late August through September, when nights are dark enough to see stars again after the midnight-sun summer, and the park runs its annual Dark Sky Festival.
