## Overview
Massacre Rim, in the far northwest corner of Nevada, was named the world's seventh International Dark Sky Sanctuary in 2019 — a designation reserved for the darkest, most remote places left on the planet. There is no town, no fence line and no light dome anywhere near it; this is BLM wilderness study area, not a park with a visitor centre.

## What to see
Full Milky Way arch with visible structure to the naked eye, zodiacal light, and airglow — skies dark enough that experienced observers report seeing the gegenschein.

## Highlights
- One of only a handful of International Dark Sky Sanctuaries in the world
- Sits between the Black Rock Desert–High Rock Canyon and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge, with no artificial light for many miles
- Genuinely wild — high desert sagebrush and rimrock, not a developed recreation site

## Tips
- Bring everything: water, fuel, a paper map and a full tank — there is no cell coverage and no services for a long way
- High-clearance or 4WD vehicle is a must on the access roads
- Tell someone your route and expected return time before you go
