Pinery Provincial Park protects one of the largest remaining oak savannah ecosystems in the world along the Lake Huron shoreline, and its beach faces west across open water — a rare, unobstructed dark horizon for a park this close to Ontario's populated southwest. It's one of the busiest parks in the system by day, but the beach empties out fast after sunset.

Drive from Toronto: ≈ 2.5 hours west via Highway 401 and Highway 21, near Grand Bend.

Best time of year: Shoulder seasons — spring and fall — when the day-use crowds thin and Lake Huron's water is calm enough for clear, low-turbulence skies.
